Set amongst gently sloping vineyards, St. Felix de Lodez is a typical wine making village in the Languedoc.  Although people have lived and worked here since 806 A.D. most of the village buildings date from 1700.

The village has a church, post office, boulangerie, tabac, cafe, restaurant, cave cooperative, wineries and a charcuterie renowned in the area for its excellent sausages.

Accommodation:

The building is a typical, terraced, wine maker's home built early 1800's.  It is situated in a small road leading off the square, where there are plenty of parking spaces.

It is a traditional, spacious, very comfortable tastefully decorated house, with white walls, exposed beams and antique tiled floors.

The front door opens on to interior terrazzo steps leading to the large kitchen/dining area, which has full cooking facilities, dishwasher and fridge.  All cutlery, crockery and equipment are provided.  There is also a washing machine/dryer for your convenience.

Leading off this room are two bedrooms, one with en-suite, and a separate shower/toilet.

Stone steps lead up to the second floor, which has a double bedroom with ensuite and a large sitting room (with TV/video and CD player) which opens on to the secluded roof terrace, overlooking the terracotta tiled rooftops.

Both bedrooms with ensuite have double beds, the other bedroom has two large single beds.

Barbeque, etc., outdoor 'lounges' and chairs are provided.  Also supplied are pillows and duvets, you will need to bring bed linen and towels with you.

Pets welcome.

LOCAL AREA

Places of interest

There are many villages to visit nearby.  These include the busy market towns of Lodeve, Pezenas and Clermont l'Herault.  All have local markets, which is an enjoyable way to mix with the locals and sample their products.

Just to the north of the village, through striking scenery, is St. Guilhem-le-Desert with its small religious community and 12th century church.

On the way to St. Guilhem-le-Desert is a lovely fresh water pool, which is used by the locals for swimming.  You can also go canoeing from there, and from a nearby village Roquebrun.

Lac du Salagou is only seven minutes drive away and is an excellent place to swim, wind surf, fish and canoe.

Montpellier is a short drive to the east and Beziers and Carcassonne to the south.  All have historical interest, good restaurants and shopping.

The Mediterranean is a 45 minute drive south, with the ancient ports Agde and Sete (France's biggest Mediterranean fishing port, with oyster beds) to visit, besides the swimming.

How to get there

By car:  The Autoroute A10-A71-A75 (via Orleans and Clermont Ferrand) now runs as far as
Montpellier.

By air:  Fly-drive to
Montpellier is available.  Montpellier is a 30 minute drive west to the house. Alternatively, flights operate from Stanstead to Carcassonne (a 90 minute drive from St. Felix) or Nimes, or Rodez.

Independent Comment

The house is conveniently situated in a quiet narrow street in this attractive village, only a short walk from the shops and amenities. If you fancy a traditional and very French holiday base, this spacious house has plenty of appealing features. The first floor kitchen/dining/living area with impressive fireplace and woodburner is a good size, as is the double bedroom, with original patterned floor tiles throughout. On the 2nd floor, next to the ensuite double bedroom, is the very large high-beamed main living room, light and airy and comfortably furnished, leading to the excellent south-facing roof terrace – a perfect retreat after the day’s activities - there is much to see and do in the area.
