Mas de la Rivière is an Old Catalan farm set on the banks of the river Têt with its own oasis of over an acre of mature gardens.
At the Mas there are three houses: the owners house where the stables used to be, the original farmhouse and the converted pumphouse. They share the large grounds including the large swimming pool (13 x 7 m) with a spring board for diving into the 3m deep end. There is a shower room and laundry room for communal use in the grounds. There is a very safe children’s play area which is set well away from the road and there are plenty of safe gardens for them.
Each of the properties has its own patio with outdoor eating area, BBQ etc.
The Old Pumphouse
These outbuildings used to house the pumps to draw water from a well into a large basin for the irrigation of the surrounding fields. The basin has been removed and the building has been converted into a luxury, air conditioned, four bedroom bungalow.
The house consists of:
- A large living/dining/open kitchen area with views of the magnificent Canigou mountain at the back, french doors to a private patio area at the front. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher etc. In the lounge, there is a Stereo TV with reception of the standard french channels as well as a Sky Satellite receiver for the free-to-view channels, FM radio and DVD/Divx/CD/MP3 player (we have a DVD library for your use)
- Two bedrooms with double beds, both with french doors opening unto the garden
- One bedroom with twin beds
- One small bedroom with bunk beds
- Two bathrooms, one with shower and one with bath (and shower in bath)
The Old Farmhouse
The old farmhouse has been tastefully modernised to combine its' original character with modern practicalities. It still has the original catalan tiled floors and has a large kitchen equipped with gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, american fridge/freezer, microwave etc. with a spacious dining area opening onto the terrace. There is a large living room with a television and DVD player (we have a DVD library for your use) and an open fire for winter visitors to enjoy.
On the first floor there are three large double bedrooms and a shower room. There is an additional wc and wash basin downstairs and an additional shower room in the grounds by the swimming pool.
The terrace is filled with mature trees and shrubs and has a shaded outdoor eating area shown on the picture to the left.
LOCAL AREA
Mas de la Rivière is on the edge of the quaint old village of Villelongue de la Salanque. The pretty village of Canet-en-Roussillon is only a couple of miles away. The location is ideal as, despite being in the heart of the country, it is close to the sandy beaches of the cote Vermeille with the resorts of Canet and St. Marie just a few minutes away. It is also close to the cosmopolitan city of Perpignan and to all the major link roads to take you up to the mountains or down to Spain. There is a shopping center with a hypermarket about 5 minutes away.
The area is a fantastic holiday destination at any time of the year, combining, the long sandy Mediterranean beaches, acres of vineyard and orchards with quaint little villages and the breathtaking beauty of the Pyrenees.

Mas de la Riviere offers an agreeable balance between private areas around the 2 properties and spacious attractive Mediterranean garden/recreation areas together with a very large swimming pool; this makes an ideal holiday base for families who like to spend time “at home” in a peaceful and private rural location which is safe for children as well as enjoying the beaches and the many attractions in the area. The 2 properties, both of which are well equipped, are quite different in style and character. The 2-storey farmhouse is in the traditional style with original Catalan floor tiles, large windows, good size bedrooms and plenty of outside private space with both sun and shade. The Old Pumphouse is a fully and tastefully modernised single-storey houses which feels bright, airy and modern inside, again with plenty of outside private space.
